PURE ETCR tyre revealed by Goodyear

The bespoke tyre that will be used in PURE ETCR – the world’s first all-electric, multi-brand touring car championship – has been revealed today by Goodyear.

The all-weather Eagle F1 SuperSport race tyre, which began testing this week at Alès, France, draws on Goodyear’s extensive and wide-ranging involvement in motorsport to provide a product tailored to the needs of electric racing.

Among the innovations of the racing tyre, which shares the philosophy of its road-going version, are Goodyear’s Power Shoulder and High Force Construction technology, which will allow drivers to maximise the mind-blowing performance of their 500kW (equivalent to 680hp), rear-wheel-drive PURE ETCR cars.

The Power Shoulder improves cornering performance through its massive closed outside pattern while the super-stiff sidewall design of the High Force Construction technology results in better handling and driving stability.

Both technologies are integral to the Pure ETCR version of the Eagle F1 SuperSport, but optimised for race use by further strengthening the outer shoulder to create a unique tyre that provides stability and impressive cornering performance to the world’s most-powerful touring cars.

“We have faced a number of challenges while developing the Eagle F1 SuperSport tyre for Pure ETCR,” said Bernd Seehafer, Technical Project Manager EMEA at Goodyear.

“The result, however, is a unique and innovative design that is suited to the characteristics of these powerful electric touring cars.

“We’re proud that this tyre shares so much DNA and technology with the road car version of Eagle F1 SuperSport, and the fact that this is possible demonstrates the value that our motorsport learnings have had on road tyre development.”

The treaded design allows for use in both dry and wet weather and means that fewer types tyres need to be produced and transported to events, reducing the environmental impact and aiding the sustainability plans of both PURE ETCR and Goodyear.

After months of development and fine-tuning in the laboratory, the Pure ETCR-specification Eagle F1 SuperSport tyre is testing on the racetrack for the first time this week, at Alès, France.

Testing will continue ahead of the first event of PURE ETCR’s promotional season in Copenhagen on October 9-11.

“The reveal of this bespoke PURE ETCR racing tyre from Goodyear shows how heavily-invested they are in the technologies around electric vehicles, both on the road and on the racetrack,” said François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the PURE ETCR promoter.

“Goodyear’s extensive background in motorsport and in using it as a platform to develop their on-the-road products means we can be confident that drivers will be able to maximise their cars’ performance in our thrilling on-track battles.

“We are extremely proud to have a company like Goodyear, who shares are view on sustainability and innovation, as a founder partner of PURE ETCR.”

Following PURE ETCR’s debut in Denmark, the series moves on to further events in its promotional season at Goodwood Motor Circuit (UK), Motorland Aragón (Spain) and Adria International Raceway (Italy).
