A number of set-up enhancements to the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR were the key factors in Hyundai Motorsport N’s strong performance at PURE ETCR Race SP, according to driver John Filippi.
The 26-year-old Frenchman scored his first Battle win at MotorLand Aragón as he defeated Romeo Ferraris-M1RA pair Luca Filippi and Oli Web for victory in Round 1 at the Spanish circuit.
Meanwhile team-mate Augusto Farfus was victorious in SuperFinal A to finish the event second overall while Jean-Karl Vernay holds second in the overall Drivers’ points table.
Filippi credited car adjustments as a major reason behind his own step forward in pace since the season-opener at Vallelunga three weeks previously.
“I’ve improved myself and my feeling with the car, so I have more confidence now,” Filippi said.
“But we have also improved the car set-up. It’s better and we’re now closer to the CUPRA as well.”
Filippi credited the Hyundai team not only for the set-up tweaks, but also for an improved reading of the race weekend, which meant they came within four points of being named the Winning Manufacturer in Spain.
“We’ve learned a lot about different strategies with using the Power-Up and how to optimise it,” he added. “We’re still missing some of the scenarios and data, but we are better, for sure.”
Filippi, who finished eighth overall in Spain, is ninth in the Drivers’ standings, but only 15 points away from a top-six spot, while Hyundai are second in the Teams’ rankings behind CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport and ahead of Romeo Ferraris-M1RA.
