Hyundai Motorsport N enjoyed a superb run of form on the opening day of official PURE ETCR competition at Race DK on the streets of Copenhagen.
Jean-Karl Vernay won his Round 2 battle against Romeo Ferraris-M1RA’s Oli Webb to ensure he ended the day on top of Pool A with a maximum score, while team-mate Augusto Farfus did likewise in Pool B against Philipp Eng in the sister Giulia ETCR.
Both Veloster N ETCR drivers crucially pulled ahead of their rivals into Turn 1, having each chosen the middle position under the Starting Gates.
While Vernay was relatively unchallenged by Round 1 winner Webb, the British driver’s rookie team-mate Eng put Farfus under extreme pressure; the pair rubbing bodywork on more than one occasion as they threaded their way between the punishing concrete barriers.
Each will now be able to choose the advantageous position in the running order for tomorrow morning’s Time Trial, which decides the grid for the DHL SuperFinals.
Series leader Mattias Ekström and his CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport team-mate Mikel Azcona were each victorious in the battle of the Round 1 runners-up while Jordi Gené and Luca Filippi were the round’s other winners.
