Goodyear to use PURE ETCR to drive EV tyre development forwards

Goodyear’s recent announcement as PURE ETCR’s founding partner and official tyre supplier brings one of the most historic names in global motorsport together with an exciting new concept to take touring car racing into a new era.

The American brand, which is also official supplier to PURE ETCR’s sister series; the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, sends around 50 per cent of its new tyres directly into the electric and hybrid-vehicle market, according to Mike Rytokoski, Vice-President & Chief Marketing Officer of Goodyear Consumer Europe.

He said that the partnership with PURE ETCR would help drive forward development of tyres for electric vehicles on and off the racetrack.

“Electric vehicles have very different needs to their petrol or diesel equivalents,” said Rytokoski.

“They are heavier and have more torque, which is delivered immediately. Goodyear has developed tyres that can cope with this instant power delivery, ensuring high grip and traction hand-in-hand with low rolling resistance, which increases range and efficiency.”

Technology derived from the latest EagleF1 SuperSport ultra-high performance tyre will be heavily incorporated into the PURE ETCR rubber.

This tyre will be of an all-weather variety, meaning they are suitable for use no matter what track conditions are encountered by competitors.

“We share PURE ETCR’s vision for sustainability,” Rytokoski added. “So we quickly came to the realisation that a single specification of tyre for all weather conditions was ideal.

“Not only does this avoid the need to ship three or four specifications of tyre across the world, but it gives you a level of durability and performance that enables you to go flat-out from the start to the chequered flag, which will be great news for race fans watching.”

The first official round of PURE ETCR takes place at Austria’s Salzbürgring on July 24-26, while competing manufacturers will face-off for the first time against the clock at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, UK, on July 9-12.
