Augusto Farfus ended Saturday on top of Pool A after a bruising encounter in Round 2 of PURE ETCR Race HU at the Hungaroring.
Opening-round victories ensured that Hyundai Motorsport N driver Farfus met series leader Mattias Ekström, of CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport in Round 2 in what was undoubtedly a hotly-anticipated battle.
The hype proved well-founded as, after switching places twice during the first half-lap, Farfus attempted to pass Ekström with two wheels on the grass into Turn 5 at the top of the hill.
With no space on the track to complete the move, contact was the result as both cars went off the circuit and had to rejoin; Farfus now ahead of Ekström.
Farfus won the Battle to end the day with the maximum 27 points, though the result remains provisional pending an investigation by the Race Stewards.
There was contact in Battle 3 as well as Jordi Gené and John Filippi disputed the lead.
CUPRA racer Gené out-braked his rival into Turn 1 and then ran side-by-side on the exit as Filippi used Power-Up to try to stay ahead. The pair banged shoulders at Turn 3 with Filippi emerging ahead and the Hyundai driver claiming the victory.
Battle Two was an all-Romeo Ferraris-M1RA affair with King of Copenhagen Philipp Eng defeating Luigi Ferrara to end the day second in the Pool A standings.
