Philipp Eng claimed a remarkable Race DK Round 1 victory on his debut in PURE ETCR with an assured drive on the streets of Copenhagen for Romeo Ferraris-M1RA.
The Austrian, who was drawn in the middle for Pool B Battle 2, leapt into the lead as inside starter Tom Chilton bogged down on the line in his Hyundai Veloster N ETCR and dropped to the back.
Four laps later the chequered flag waved for Eng, with CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport’s Mikel Azcona and Chilton behind. It was the second Round 1 win of the day for Romeo Ferraris-M1RA after Oli Webb did likewise in Pool A.
Romeo Ferraris-M1RA Operations Director Michela Cerruti said: “I was sure Philipp would deliver a very good performance. He has lots of experience of city tracks. He made a good start and gave us a very important victory.”
In Battle 1, Augusto Farfus was victorious for Hyundai – also from the middle starting position – as he sprinted ahead of Rodrigo Baptista’s Giulia ETCR by Romeo Ferraris into the first corner. Baptista and Jordi Gené were next up.
