Philipp Eng continued his sensational PURE ETCR debut weekend by streaking to Race DK Time Trial B victory on Sunday morning and securing pole position for DHL SuperFinal B on the streets of Copenhagen.
Meanwhile Mattias Ekström went even faster in Time Trial A to secure the optimum starting spot for DHL SuperFinal A and give himself a great chance of increasing his series lead.
Eng, who won his Round 1 battle for Romeo Ferraris, threaded the needle to perfection; his 1m11.203s lap giving him the top spot by just 0.114s from Hyundai Motorsport N’s Tom Chilton.
“It was a great qualifying,” the Austrian said. “The team guided me extremely well on how to do the build-up lap, which was key. It was my first Time Trial, but it was one lap fully on the edge.
“I Had to take a lot of risk. I was close to the walls, but with a lot of adrenaline. Mattias was a little quicker in Pool A, but it doesn’t matter. It’s good.”
In Pool A, Ekström secured pole position for CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport with a 1m11.042s lap that was 0.387s quicker than Romeo Ferraris-M1RA’s Luca Filippi. Oli Webb made it two Giulia ETCRs in the top three.
Pool A overnight leader Jean-Karl Vernay was only fourth fastest after bogging down at the start, seriously impacting his hopes of becoming King of the Weekend.
His team-mate Augusto Farfus – the Pool B leader – was fourth in his Time Trial as well, behind Eng, Chilton and the impressive CUPRA of Jordi Gené.
