Mattias Ekström topped Time Trial A on Sunday morning to claim a vital pole position for DHL SuperFinal A at the Hungaroring.
The CUPRA X Zengo Motorspört driver, who leads the points table with just one event remaining after Race HU, claimed his second straight Time Trial Pool victory with a superb marker of 2m26.341s.
Ekström – currently third in the Pool A standings – was the third man to set his time and knocked Romeo Ferraris-M1RA’s Philipp Eng off the top spot by 0.208s.
“This is the highlight of the weekend for me,” said the Swede. “The 500kW lap is such a challenge. I wanted to go to the limit. Sometimes it was a bit too much, but I’m very happy with Pole.”
Eng – the Pool A leader overnight – will start second with his team-mate Luigi Ferrara third, despite scrappy-looking laps from both.
Augusto Farfus was the fastest Hyundai Motorsport N driver in fourth, but complained of not being able to bring his tyres into their performance window.
Team-mate John Filippi was just behind with Jordi Gené’s CUPRA sixth.
