The concept

Not only are the cars brand new; so is the event format.
To highlight the ultra-high-performance capabilities of the 500kw PURE ETCR vehicles, every car will be put through its paces in a number of short, sharp, wheel-to-wheel battles; each driver pushing their car to its limits with no need for energy-saving tactics.

A live draw will split the PURE ETCR field into two Pools – who remain separate for the rest of the weekend. Each Pool is then split into a pair of three-car Battles for Round 1. Winners face off in Round 2 with runners-up and third-place finishers doing likewise.
The final day consists of a flat-out Time Trial in Round 3 that sets the grid for the DHL SuperFinals that conclude the weekend. Points are awarded at all stages bar the Time Trial with the top scorer crowned King of Queen of the weekend and the TAG Heuer Most Valuable Driver.
Starting Gate, Power-Up and Hot Zone introduced
Uniquely among circuit-racing championships, cars will line-up side-by-side for each Battle, inside a giant 24-metre wide, 9m high starting gate, which will become one of the centrepieces of the series. When the time comes, the gates will open and it’s time for full-throttle action. In Round 1 and the DHL SuperFinal, every driver will have 20-60 seconds (variable depending on the circuit) of Power-Up – a 200kW boost of energy that takes their car up to its 500kW peak power – the equivalent of an astonishing 670bhp.
Drivers and teams will prepare for Battle in the ‘Hot Zone’ – a connected area where they can watch the action unfold on the track as their team-mates battle for honours.
After crossing the finish line, cars are taken to the Energy Station in the paddock, where fans can watch the vehicles re-charging – powered by HTWO hydrogen fuel-cell generators – up-close in a safe and engaging environment.

PURE ETCR is the world’s first all-electric, multi-brand, touring car series, and gives the world’s largest and most-recognisable brands the chance to fight for an official electric Manufacturers’ title.
Underpinning this all-new race series is a forward-thinking technical concept, set out by ETCR creators WSC Group, aimed at showing off the most extraordinary performance elements of the world’s fastest-accelerating touring cars and creating exciting on-track battles.

  • Four-or-five-door production touring cars
  • Electric motor with 300kw continuous power and 500kw maximum power at 1200rpm
Battery capacity of 65kw at 800v
  • Rear-wheel-drive with single gear
  • Double wishbone rear suspension with McPherson struts at front
  • Common Magelec Propulsion power unit (motor, inverter, gearbox) and Williams Advanced Engineering battery pack to fit all cars
  • DC/DC converters by BrightLoop
  • Hydrogen generators from HTWO powering the charger units

Additionally, PURE ETCR founding partner Goodyear provides an all-weather tyre for the series, meaning fewer tyres need to be produced, transported and disposed of than if there were different constructions for wet and dry conditions. Drivers are allowed to use four sets of tyres (including three new sets) per weekend.
