Rodrigo Baptista believes Romeo Ferraris-M1RA are ‘close’ to scoring a breakthrough maiden PURE ETCR victory after he finished third overall at Race SP at MotorLand Aragon last weekend.
The Brazilian claimed his first Battle win in Round 1 and was second in DHL SuperFinal A to score 63 points over the event – his best weekend haul to date – and move up to fourth place in the Drivers’ standings.
“I feel we’re very close, Baptista said when asked about the team’s chances of winning soon.
“But it’s hard to say if that will be at the next event because it is a street track, so none of us know what to expect.
“We have definitely improved since Vallelunga and we’ve had a very good weekend. Since the very first Battle I knew the car was good. In the SuperFinal A, I was very happy.”
The performance of the Opera-based team, which has partnered with the Hungarian M1RA squad for its PURE ETCR programme, was underlined by Baptista’s team-mates Luca Filippi and Oli Webb also scoring Battle wins.
Filippi was one of only two drivers capable of defeating Augusto Farfus for King of the Weekend status as DHL SuperFinal B approached on Sunday afternoon, but a loose electrical connection prevented him starting from the grid and cost the Italian valuable points.
The next event takes place on the Bellahøj Park street circuit in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, on August 6-8.
