Mikel Azcona continue his relentless charge at the Hungaroring by topping Time Trial B and securing pole position for Race HU DHL SuperFinal B this afternoon.
The CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport driver’s 2m26.309s time was a staggering 1.633s faster than his nearest Pool rival and fractionally quicker than team-mate Mattias Ekstrom, who had topped the earlier Pool A Time Trial.
This was enough to secure him the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy for the event, though his sights are set on adding to that honour and becoming King of the Weekend for the first time since the Vallelunga season-opener.
Hyundai Motorsport N team-mates Jean-Karl Vernay and Tom Chilton were second and third-fastest, but Chilton was later penalised three seconds for exceeding track limits at Turn 4, dropping him behind Dániel Nagy’s CUPRA.
Romeo Ferraris-M1RA Giulia ETCRs filled the final row as both Rodrigo Baptista and Luca Filippi spun. Filippi lost less time with his Turn 1 gyration so starts fifth with Filippi – who went around at Turn 4 – sixth.
