While Mikel Azcona was understandably elated after becoming King of the Weekend at PURE ETCR Race HU, there were two extra successes for the Spaniard.
His maximum 77-point haul earned him the status of TAG Heuer #MostValuableDriver across the weekend while his scintillating pace to set the fastest marker in Sunday’s Time Trial also earned him the TAG Heuer Best Lap Trophy.
Placed in Time Trial B, his 2m26.309s lap was just three hundredths of a second quicker than CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport team-mate Mattias Ekström – the Time Trial A pace-setter.
Afterwards he thanked the contribution of his team-mates for helping him to rediscover his early-season form after what he admitted was a below-par performance in Copenhagen.
“As a team we’ve worked very hard since Copenhagen,” Azcona said. “Mattias, Jordi [Gené] and Dáni [Nagy] have been very open, all sharing data to make sure we all have the best CUPRA we can.
“I felt good all weekend, in the Battles and in the Time Trial. What we have done has worked very well here.”
