Mikel Azcona continued his perfect Battle record in PURE ETCR with a Race SP Round 2 victory on Saturday morning at MotorLand Aragón to ensure he will end the day as the leader of Pool A.
The CUPRA X Zengo Motorsport driver was pitched against the Giulia ETCR by Romeo Ferraris of fellow Round 1 winner Rodrigo Baptista, beat his rival off the line and defended throughout the five-lap encounter.
His victory means the Spaniard remains unbeaten in Battle since the start of the season, having won in Round 1 and Round 2 in both Italy and Spain plus the DHL SuperFinal at Vallelunga.
Augusto Farfus was victorious in Battle 2, the Hyundai Motorsport N driver slower off the line than CUPRA’s Jordi Gené, but using a small amount of Power-Up to pass him into the first corner.
Gené, who said he was saving tyres for later, did not challenge too hard and finished second.
Battle 3 went the way of Hyundai’s Tom Chilton, who passed Romeo Ferraris – M1RA’s Stefano Coletti at the hairpin on the final lap and pulled away up the hill towards the finish line to score his first Battle win.
